Why Bolivia?
Lydia Hill studied Bolivia in university and knew she wanted to help the Indigenous people in Bolivia overcome poverty and discrimination. In 2016 Lydia visited Bolivia, returning in 2018 with her husband Matt. Together, they formed Help Bolivia Foundation (HBF) to support Indigenous children and their families.
Where does HBF get its revenue from?
HBF’s revenue is primarily from private donors, many of whom are monthly donors. HBF also applies for and receives grants, and holds fundraisers throughout the year.
Can I get a tax receipt for my donation to HBF?
HBF is a registered Canadian charity and can issue official tax receipts to Canadian donors who donate via E-transfer, cash, cheque, PayPal or Square.
Canadians who donate through our CanadaHelps page receive tax receipts directly from CanadaHelps.
American and UK donors receive tax credit when they donate through our GlobalGiving page.
How much money does HBF spend on salaries?
Very little. HBF is 100% volunteer driven. This includes the volunteer Board of Directors and the dozens of volunteers around the world. As per CRA requirements, HBF employs one person in Bolivia to oversee the programs. This employee receives less than $5,000 Canadian per year.
Is Board travel to Bolivia paid for with donations?
No. HBF understands the importance of Directors of the Board traveling to Bolivia regularly to oversee the projects and visit with the children and their families. Directors traveling pay their own travel costs for this.
How much does HBF spend on administration?
Since inception in 2018, all HBF administration expenses have been covered by donation from the founders Matt and Lydia Hill. No donation dollars have been used to pay for administration expenses.
