From September 2022 to December 2024, Project Ludoteca ran in Villa Ingenio, an impoverished neighourhood of El Alto, Bolivia. The Saturday afternoon program provided much needed play therapy and nutrition to 47 children ages 6 to 13. Most came from single parent households, all are extremely poor. Many have learning disabilities, and all were left behind when school was moved online in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
3 Educators engaged the children and provided a safe and happy space to escape the stress of their daily lives. 2 Volunteer program managers as well as a group of parents prepared the nutritious snack - a favourite part of the program! The children and their parents were grateful for the support provided by Help Bolivia Foundation donors. However, the parents were also seeking education support for their children, which they cannot provide themselves. Many parents are illiterate, none can help with homework.
In March 2025 HBF combined the Villa Ingenio program with the full time Tahuantinsuyo program to create a full time program for all the children in the Huayna Potosi district of El Alto. More info about this new program is forthcoming.
