In September 2022, Help Bolivia Foundation launched Project Ludoteca in Villa Ingenio, a deprived neighborhood of El Alto, Bolivia. This vital initiative provides play therapy and nutritional support to over 40 children aged six to 13 every Saturday afternoon. These children, coming from primarily single-parent and impoverished households, faced significant setbacks when education shifted online in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many have learning disabilities, compounding their challenges.
Our dedicated team includes three educators who foster a safe and joyful environment, allowing the children to momentarily escape the stresses of daily life. Two volunteer program managers and several parents collaborate to prepare a nutritious snack, a highlight for the kids. The parents, many of whom cannot read or assist with homework, are desperate for educational support for their children.
Expanding Our Impact
We aim to transform Project Ludoteca into a full-time program, operating Monday to Friday. This expansion will allow us to provide comprehensive educational support, hot nutritious meals, ongoing psychological therapy, and skills training for parents. But this vision can only become a reality with donations from kind and generous people like you.
Join Our Movement
By becoming a monthly donor, you contribute not just to the welfare of a child but to a broader movement advocating for cultural affirmation and empowerment. Each donation helps us inch closer to our goal, building our cholet and reinforcing the spirit of the Aymara culture.
Add Your Grain of Sand Today
Join us in making a significant and lasting impact on the lives of children in Villa Ingenio. Your monthly “grain of sand” provides more than just aid; it fosters hope and opportunity.
Why Build a Digital Cholet?
Our ambitious goal is to secure 300 monthly donors. To visualize our progress, we're constructing a digital 'cholet' house on our website. Each new donor adds a piece to this cholet, symbolizing our collective effort and dedication.
The Cultural Significance of Cholets
Cholets are not merely architectural feats; they are potent symbols of cultural resilience and Aymara identity. These structures, vibrant and functional, represent a cultural revival and the empowerment of a community historically overlooked. As permanent fixtures, cholets reflect the Aymara's determination to maintain their cultural identity and economic presence in their cities, without assimilating into the dominant urban culture.
Juan is 8 years old and studies at the Boliviano Portugal school in the Ingenio area, and loves to play soccer.
He entered the center with many learning difficulties in the subjects of language and mathematics. His mother, a woman who leaves the house very early, does not have the possibility of helping her son with his schoolwork.
When Juan comes to the children's center he feels happy because he knows that there he will find support. He takes out his notebooks and together with the educator he does his homework. They do the research that they give him at school and he puts a lot of effort into taking advantage of the only day in the week ( Tuesday).
Juan and the other children desperately need a full time education support program. Add your Grain of Sand to help make that come true!
Jhoselin is 11 years old and studies at the Illimani school in the Villa Ingavi area. She loves to play with dolls.
Her mother came to the center at the end of last year to reserve a place for her daughter because she had been told about the educational support provided by the foundation. This girl has difficulties with writing, reading, and comprehension, and at her age she cannot add, subtract, multiply and requires a lot of educational reinforcement for her leveling.
The short time she is at the center is not enough to provide her with support in the many difficulties she has with her schoolwork, but she feels happy when she is at the center and does her homework with her educator.
Jhoselin and the other children are counting on you. Add your Grain of Sand and together we will provide the full time support these children need!
We are excited to share that thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have reached 30% of our fundraising goal for the "Grain of Sand" campaign! This means our digital cholet, a symbol of growth and community effort, is now 30% complete.
Reaching this milestone is a significant first step towards transforming the lives of children in Villa Ingenio. With your continued support, we can expand Project Ludoteca to operate full-time, providing the children with the education, nutrition, and care they urgently need.
Help Us Build More
We are grateful for the progress, but there is still much to do. Join us in our mission to build a brighter future for the children of Villa Ingenio. Let's reach the next milestone together!
